THRIVEAID Humanitarian and Development Initiative (TAHDI-NIGERIA)

Who We Are

Is a Nigerian non-profit humanitarian and development organization dedicated to improving the lives of vulnerable populations affected by conflict, displacement, poverty, disease, disasters, and social exclusion. We implement integrated, evidence-based humanitarian and development programmes that respond to immediate needs while strengthening community resilience and promoting sustainable development outcomes. Our work is guided by internationally recognized humanitarian principles and grounded in local realities to ensure that our interventions remain responsive, inclusive, accountable, and sustainable.

Our organization was founded in response to the escalating humanitarian challenges affecting vulnerable communities in Northeast Nigeria. Originally established as Fatan Alheri Humanitarian and Development Initiative in 2022, the organization evolved into THRIVEAID Humanitarian and Development Initiative (TAHDI-NIGERIA) to broaden its scope, strengthen institutional capacity, and expand its impact. Today, we work collaboratively with government institutions, humanitarian actors, development agencies, and community stakeholders to deliver lasting solutions that move communities beyond survival toward resilience and self-reliance.

ThriveAid Humanitarian and Development Initiative (TAHDI-NIGERIA) is a Nigerian humanitarian and development organization committed to improving the lives of vulnerable and crisis-affected populations through integrated, community-driven and sustainable interventions.

With experience reaching more than 10,000 programme beneficiaries, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), returnees and vulnerable host communities across Dikwa, Mafa and Jere LGAs of Borno State, and Maisandari and Nayinawa Wards of Damaturu, Yobe State, ThriveAid will strengthen and expand its interventions during the 2026–2030 strategic period.

The strategy will focus on Nutrition, WASH, Education, Protection, Peacebuilding and Social Cohesion, Food Security and Livelihoods, Community Resilience, Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Adaptation, and Institutional and Local Capacity Strengthening.

The strategy is designed around the Humanitarian–Development–Peace Nexus, recognizing that communities affected by conflict require both immediate life-saving assistance and longer-term investment in resilience, recovery, social cohesion and sustainable livelihoods

Our vision is to build a world where vulnerable communities live healthy, safe, and resilient lives with equal opportunities to thrive, while our mission is to deliver inclusive, evidence-based humanitarian and development interventions that improve health outcomes, restore dignity, strengthen resilience, and empower vulnerable communities. Our work is anchored on the THRIVE values—Transparency & Integrity, Humanity, Resilience, Inclusion, Value Creation, and Excellence—which guide every aspect of our programming and partnerships.

THRIVEAID currently operates across Northeast Nigeria, including Yobe State, implementing programmes in Health and Nutrition, WASH, Food Security and Livelihoods/Shelter, Education, Protection, Vocational training, and Emergency Response and Resilience and cultural support. Within our Health and Nutrition portfolio, we support primary healthcare services, maternal, newborn and child health, immunization, Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM/CMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E), nutrition screening and referral systems, and community health education.

Social Integration: is understood as a dynamic and principled process of promoting the values, relations and institutions that enable all people to participate in social, economic, cultural and political life on the basis of equality and dignity. It is a process in which societies engage in order to foster societies that are stable, safe and just- societies that are based on the promotion and protection of all human rights, as well as respect for and value of dignity of each individual, diversity, pluralism, tolerance, non- discrimination, non-violence equality of opportunity, solidarity, security, and participation of all people, including disadvantaged and vulnerable groups of persons.

Social Inclusion: Social inclusion is understood as a process by which efforts are made to ensure equal opportunity for all, regardless of their background, so that they can achieve their full potential in life. It is a multi-dimensional process aimed at creating conditions which enable full and active participation of every member of the society in all aspect of life, including civic, social, economic, and political activities, as well as participation in decision-making process. Social inclusion is understood as the process by which societies combat poverty and social exclusion.

Social Inclusion: Social inclusion is understood as a process by which efforts are made to ensure equal opportunity for Social Exclusion: Social exclusion is understood as the condition (Barriers and process) that impede social inclusion. Social exclusion is a process through which individuals or group are wholly or partially excluded from fully participating in all aspects of life of the society, in which they live, on the grounds of their social identities, such as age, gender, race, ethnicity, culture or language, and/or physical, economic, social disadvantages. Social exclusion may mean the lack of voice, lack of recognition, lack of capacity for active participation. It may also mean exclusion from decent work, assets, land, opportunities, access to social services and/or political representationall, regardless of their background, so that they can achieve their full potential in life. Social Cohesion: Social cohesion refers to the elements that brings and hold people together in society. In a socially cohSocial Participation: Social participation is understood as the act of engaging in society’s activities. It refers to the possibility to influence decisions and have access to decisions-making processes. Social participation creates mutual trust among individuals, which forms the basis for shared responsibilities towards the community and society.esive society all individual and groups have a sense of belonging participation, inclusion, recognition and legitimacy. Social cohesive societies are not necessarily demographically homogenous. Rather, by respecting diversity, they harness the potential residing in their societal diversity (In terms of ideas, opinions, skills, etc) therefore, they are less prone to slip into destructive patterns of tension and conflicts when different interest collide.
